Melody Birmingham serves as Executive Vice President and President, NiSource Utilities. In this role, she leads the profit and loss for the group utilities, regulatory, public affairs, federal government affairs, customer operations, environmental sustainability, major accounts, and new business, for the six NiSource operating companies.
Birmingham has more than 26 years of experience in the energy industry. Prior to her current role, Birmingham was the Executive Vice President and Chief Innovation Officer, where she was responsible for the enterprise business transformation office, information technology, data and analytics, communications, customer operations, supply chain management, accounts payable, corporate aviation, real estate, enterprise security, and the corporate foundation. In this role, she helped lead the company’s transformation as NiSource continues to evolve and grow with the changing energy needs of customers and communities.
Before joining NiSource, Birmingham served as Senior Vice President and Chief Administrative Officer for Duke Energy. While at Duke Energy, she also served as Senior Vice President and Chief Procurement Officer for Duke Energy where she was responsible for the enterprise sourcing and supply chain functions for regulated and commercial operations.
In 2019, Birmingham was appointed the Sagamore of the Wabash Award by Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb, received the Purdue University Distinguished Technology Alumni Award, and was inducted into the Purdue Boiler Business Exchange Business Hall of Fame. In 2021, Birmingham was inducted into the Purdue Old Master’s program.
Birmingham is an independent board director for 1st Source Corporation and 1st Source Bank.She is currently on the board of directors for United Way of Central Ohio, One Columbus, and the Columbus Symphony and Orchestra.
Birmingham earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University.
